Our offices will close from 5.15 pm on 23 December 2016 and will re-open at 9 am on 3 January 2017.

  Mander Hadley raises more than £1,300 for hospice charity


 

Generous clients and hardworking solicitors from Mander Hadley joined together to help make a difference to their local community and in doing so raised £1,350 for The Myton Hospices.

During ‘Make a Will Week’ held in October, Mander Hadley’s private client team offered to prepare Wills free of charge. Instead of paying a fee clients were instead encouraged to make a donation to the charity which provides both in-patient and community hospice care to the people of Coventry, Rugby and Warwick.

A tool on a government website, which allows people to create Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), without specialist legal advice, could leave vulnerable people unprotected in their hour of need.

A new report by Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE), has highlighted concerns and warns that anyone creating an LPA without taking specialist legal advice faces a significantly higher risk of being left with an ineffective legal document, incurring additional application fees, and even becoming a victim of fraud or coercion.

  Pre-Action Protocol rule changes will affect Construction and Engineering Disputes

Highly anticipated changes to the Pre-Action Protocol for Construction and Engineering Disputes came into force on Wednesday 9 November, changing the face of claim preparation in the sector significantly.

Since its introduction, the Protocol has required claimants to issue a written letter to notify a defendant of their claim prior to Court proceedings. This letter must then be acknowledged (or objected) within a set period before the issue is taken to a pre-action meeting without prejudice, which allows both parties to attempt to narrow the issues between the parties and/or seek settlement of the dispute outside of Court.

  HGV firms witness police crackdown on mobile phone use

Police are using new methods to spot HGV drivers who are illegally using mobile phones at the wheel, by recruiting ‘community spotters’ as well as ‘spy cabs’ driven by police officers.

The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) has announced that a scheme using members of the public to target repeat offenders has been piloted this November as part of a highly publicised week-long crackdown.
