Our firm had cause to celebrate recently, when we were named Warwickshire Law Society’s Law Firm of the Year (up to five partners).

Twelve colleagues from Mander Hadley attended the Society’s annual fundraising dinner and awards ceremony on 17 November, at the Manor Hotel, Meriden, to pick up the prestigious accolade, which was presented by Laura Gripton on behalf of the award’s sponsors, Robert Walters.

  Divorcing couples fail to do the maths when it comes to splitting pensions

New research has revealed that less than one in ten divorcing couples consider future pension assets when sorting out a fair financial settlement.

Despite the fact that future pension pots can be a sizeable asset, many divorcees are not planning ahead.  By comparison, 56 per cent of couples say they would fight for their share of a jointly owned property, whilst 36 per cent wanted to see a fair split of combined savings.

  Vulnerable elderly could be missing out on council tax reductions

Thousands of people who are living with dementia or caring for someone with the condition could be missing out on a reduction in council tax.

In England, Scotland and Wales anyone who has been medically certified as having a permanent, severe mental impairment such as dementia and who is entitled to a disability benefit such as attendance allowance, personal independence payment or disability living allowance, could be entitled to a reduction in their Council Tax bill.

  Delivery drivers win the right to spend a penny

Thousands of UK delivery drivers have won the right to ‘spend a penny’ after a long-running campaign for the right of delivery drivers to use a company’s toilets while conducting deliveries. 

From 1 November, owners of all non-domestic premises are obliged to allow people who are not their employees but visit their premises during the course of their work, to use toilets and washing facilities.
