The increase in the number of probate disputes being heard at the High Court is being blamed on the increasing number of DIY Wills being made in the UK.

The High Court heard 368 cases relating to probate last year, up from 282 in 2017 and 227 in 2017.

  Record number of workers illegally paid less than minimum wage

 

According to a report conducted by the Low Pay Commission (LPC), a record number of UK workers are still being paid below the minimum wage.

The report has revealed that around 440,000 people were illegally paid under the hourly minimum wage in April last year, with 369,000 of those meant to receive the national living wage (NLW) because they are aged 25 or over.

  ‘Temporary’ planning rules made permanent

 

As part of reforms to build more, better, faster and make the housing market work, temporary rules introduced by the Government in 2013 that allow homeowners in England to build larger extensions without seeking planning permission, are being made permanent.

The rules mean homeowners can add single story rear extensions of up to six metres to semi-detached and terraced houses and of up to eight metres to detached houses.
